From a wrap around shirt and overall dress to a wrap around dress

This is a dress that I made almost one year ago. 12/28/07.

It is actually a wrap around shirt that I added to.

I used an overall dress that Mandy had given me when I was nursing and didn't have many clothes that I felt comfortable nursing in. She told me to just use a seam ripper to make the arm hole bigger and then wear a shirt or blazer over it. And that's what I did. But once my baby girl was done nursing I decided to take a couple of things that I wouldn't be wearing anymore (a makeshift nursing dress and a middrift bearing wrap around shirt) and make something that I would wear. So I made this dress.

The grey fabric is a grey microsuede that Daniel had picked out for his baby carrier.

The pictures don't show the length. It hits right above the knee.

Funny thing. Last week while at our favorite consignment store ,Lilian's Cloak, we found a wrap around dress for Kai that is the same colors. It's reversible, so it's grey on one side with maroon trim and on the reverse it's maroon with grey trim. It looks home made too. Someone did a great job. In this picture she is wearing it. Hard to see it, though, she's hiding, with her brother, in the fireplace.

From an old wool skirt to a new hat & bunny

I found out that the soap pouches weren't as lovely as I imagined they would be. They bleed when combined with neutrogena bar soap. So now I have all these wool pouches and not sure what to do with them.

With more of the skirt I made Kai this adorable hat. I found the instructions here.

I may have enough left to make her matching mittens.

I also made her a little wool bunny to put keep in her pocket on the outfit above. I got the pattern for the bunny from McCall's Easy 8976. I'm also using that pattern packet to make her a brown t-shirt from a jersey knit dress that I have and don't wear. I'm gonna secure the bunny into place with a strip of the wool that I have left.

From an old wool skirt to a new set of hand soap bags

I've had this old, brown, 100% wool, wrap around skirt for I have no idea how long. It's been in my scrap fabric drawer as long as I remember it. I've always looked at it and thought, "I bet that make some nice bags to put my bar hand soap in. The kids are always complaining about the soap being too slippery when they try to wash their hands. This would fix a problem and help me use up some of the things I've kept in my scap fabric drawer. Here are the pictures.
In the top picture, you'll notice the pink ribbon tying the bag closed. On the pink ribbon I have stitched flowers and leaves, in chocolate brown thread. I especially liked this touch.

I wanted to start a blog page for my sewing projects.

I'm doing it because it's easier than keeping a scrapbook, though I'll probably end up doing that too. But just in case I never get around to doing that, I'll have this.

The first thing I'm putting here is the last thing I have worked on.

In the spirit of recycling to save the planet and our money I have taken a sweater that is too small for me and made it into a dress for Kai. It still needs one adjustment, but she was showing off for the camera this morning and I wanted to post these pictures.

I think it turned out pretty good. She loves it and that was the goal, pretty much.
